Today was a very special day in the history of Citywest ETNS. We had our very first Assembly. Two Junior Infant classes, Senior Infants and First Class got together for a little chat with Caitríona and then we said a nursery rhyme. Altogether, each class will have a chance to perform at least four different experiments during the course of this week. They are: 1. Lava Lamps, 2. Egg floating/sinking, 3. Dancing raisins, 4. Static Electricity. For more details on how each experiment is carried out; head over to our resident Science Expert, Maggie's class page.
Check out each class website to see more detail about the experiments they have been doing and how they have gotten on. Already this term Senior Infants have been telling, drawing and writing a list for Ross of all the interesting things we would like to learn about over the next year. Look out for all we will learn about houses, fish, birds, cars, trains, robots and much, much more.
We have been getting excited about lots of new things in Senior Infants. We welcomed new friends to our class, we have met lots of new teachers and we have a brand new classroom on a brand new second floor.
As per last year keep up to date with the learning and activities of Senior Infants on their website. We will have this website all the way up to Sixth Class and will be able to look back at our primary school journey from when we started in Junior Infants. Today we visited a local nursing home, where we sang songs for the people living there and we chatted with them about how our lives are the same and about how they are different. We had a great time. We learned about life long ago and the people we visited loved hearing our songs and hearing our stories. Caitriona, Ross and Claire were very proud of us - of our wonderful performance, our superb manners and our kind words! Caitriona took some photos and she will add them to our website in the next day or two.
Look who made the cover of The Echo Life magazine! We invited Joe, the photographer from The Echo, to our school for Play Hour on Tuesday. He captured the vibrancy, fun and learning that takes place during this special time in our day. We see the children wholly engaged in books, learning about engineering as they build castles and rockets, embracing their imagination by turning a cardboard box into any number of exciting places, dressing up as super-heroes, cowboys, pirates and more and using Maths skills in making jigsaws and practicing being shopkeeper and customer! Through play, our pupils develop their language and their social skills, their self confidence and their friendships! This is a lovely celebration of this important time in their learning. There is a lovely two-page spread about our school in The Echo today, with a beautiful photo of two of our pupils on the cover of the Life mag. Try to pick up a copy! We'll post a link once the online version is available!
We will be having an Information Meeting for parents and guardians on Wednesday 10th
October 2010. It will be a chance for you to find out about the teaching and learning that happens in your child’s class and how you can support your child’s learning at home. You will also get to meet the teachers working with your child. The Senior Infant meeting is at 8.40am on Wednesday 10th October. The Junior Infant meeting is at 9.00am on Wednesday 10th October. We look forward to seeing you then. Our photo proofs have arrived from the photographer and will go home today. Our children have beautiful smiles!
Order forms for the County Photos picture of your child/their class are now in the children’s bags. Correct money and the form for orders should please go into the envelope provided and can come back to Caitríona, Ross or Aoife before Thursday 11th October 2012. Why not encourage your child to be responsible for giving this back to us and build up their independence? There is, of course, no obligation to buy. We are thrilled to announce that we have been allocated a full-time teacher to support our pupils with additional language needs - that is, children who speak very little English. Aoife Hogan is our new teacher. Aoife has worked in a great number of Educate Together schools and is also experienced in early childhood education. Aoife will be teaching our Senior Infant pupils in the core subjects and will team-teach with Ross in all other curriculum areas. This is a wonderful support for our children and we look forward to introducing them to Aoife on Monday morning! |
